At AB Warriors Cricket Club, we offer comprehensive cricket coaching programs for both winter (September to March) and summer (April to August) seasons. Our programs are designed to support the holistic development of each player, fostering skill, confidence, and an in-depth understanding of the game. As Canada’s first club to offer a structured, curriculum-based approach to cricket coaching, our programs are tailored for players of all ages and skill levels.

Our Programs

Warrior Beginners Cricket Program
  • Focus: Fun, Basics, and Early Engagement
  • Goal: Introduce players to the game of cricket in a fun, engaging environment that promotes a love for the sport and builds basic skills.
  • Key Components:
    • Fundamentals of Cricket: Teach basic skills like batting, bowling, fielding, and running between wickets in an enjoyable format.
    • Soft-Ball Cricket: Use soft or tennis balls to reduce injury risk and build confidence in younger players. Older players use leather balls   
    • Small-Sided Games: Introduce small-sided games to encourage participation, teamwork, and understanding of game rules.
    • Introduction to the Spirit of Cricket: Instill key values such as respect, teamwork, and fair play.
  • Program Structure:
    • 2 Weekly training sessions focusing on fun, coordination, and basic cricket techniques.
    • Short-format games to encourage active participation.
    • Involvement in local leagues and inter-academy matches to enhance competitive experience.
  • Progression Criteria:
    • Understanding of basic skills (grip, stance, throwing).
    • Ability to participate in simple games with peers.
    • Basic understanding of cricket rules and sportsmanship.

    • Fitness and Conditioning: Begin age-appropriate fitness training, focusing on agility, coordination, and stamina.
    • Hard-Ball Introduction: Transition from soft-ball to hard-ball cricket, developing the necessary safety and technical adjustments.
  • Program Structure:
    • 2 Weekly training sessions with an emphasis on technical drills and match simulations.
    • Involvement in local leagues and inter-academy matches to enhance competitive experience.
  • Progression Criteria:

    • Advanced Technical Training: Focus on mastering advanced skills, such as fast bowling, spin variations, and aggressive batting techniques (e.g., lofted shots, power hitting).
    • Match Strategy and Tactical Awareness: Build an in-depth understanding of cricket strategies, reading the game, field placement, and decision-making under pressure.
    • Strength and Conditioning: Implement structured fitness programs focused on strength, speed, endurance, and injury prevention.
    • Mental Toughness and Focus: Introduce mental conditioning, helping players to cope with pressure and improve concentration.
  • Program Structure:
    • Intensive training sessions with match simulations and video analysis.
    • Participation in competitive leagues, tournaments, and provincial-level competitions.

  • Goal: Provide the opportunity for players to represent Ontario in provincial competitions and create pathways to the national team (Cricket Canada) and professional leagues.
  • Key Components:
    • National Trials and Competitions: Prepare players for national-level trials and provide guidance on how to advance through the system.
    • Professional Pathway Opportunities: Collaborate with scouts and professional leagues (e.g., Global T20 Canada) to create opportunities for players to advance to professional or semi-professional cricket.
  • Program Structure:
    • Continued training with a focus on preparing for provincial and national competitions.
    • High-performance tournaments and exposure to national selectors.
  • Progression Criteria:
    • Consistent excellence at the provincial level and success in high-performance settings.
    • Selection to the national team or professional league contracts.

Warrior Beginners Cricket Program

Focus: Fundamental Skills and Enjoyment: At this stage, the aim is to build the foundation of cricket skills through fun and engaging methods.
Batting: Focus on grip, stance, and basic shots (forward defense, straight drive). Introduction to hand-eye coordination through simple drills (hitting soft balls off tees). Playing small-sided games to build confidence in hitting the ball.
Bowling: Teach basic grip (seam-up) and action. Focus on accurate underarm and overarm throwing for bowling accuracy. Simple target-based games to practice bowling straight.
Fielding: Basic catching and throwing techniques (underarm throw, catching with two hands). Introduction to ground fielding (picking up stationary and rolling balls). Focus on balance and coordination when fielding.
Wicketkeeping: Basic catching techniques, including standing behind stumps for soft-ball cricket. Simple movement drills to develop agility and hand-eye coordination.
Fitness: Focus on agility, balance, and coordination through fun activities (running, jumping, skipping). Introduction to simple cricket-specific movements.
Mental Skills: Develop focus and listening skills. Encourage teamwork and fair play by teaching the Spirit of Cricket.
